How to Turn Any Natural Minor into Harmonic Minor (Only one note difference)

The Mysterious ✨

Harmonic Minor!

Hey dear reader,

Want to instantly add an exotic, dramatic twist to your playing?

Let’s talk about transforming the natural minor scale into the harmonic minor scale — it only takes one note.

Here’s how it works:

  • A natural minor = A – B – C – D – E – F – G – A
  • So G becomes G#: A – B – C – D – E – F – G# – A

That one note — the raised 7th — creates a unique tension that gives the scale its mysterious, almost Middle Eastern flavor. It’s used everywhere from classical music to metal, flamenco, and film scores.

Try it on your fretboard — just find your natural minor pattern, and slide that 7th up one fret.

Feel the shift? That’s harmonic minor casting its spell.

To show you what I mean, I made a short video — poetic, cinematic, and soaked in harmonic minor vibes, watch it below:

Hey Reader, I just dropped a new guitar lesson — and this one’s a little different. 🎸 It’s Bésame Mucho, the timeless Latin ballad we all know and love… But this time, I’m joined by none other than Pythagoras himself — yep, the ancient Greek philosopher playing guitar, in a wild, time-traveling duo. This one’s part sketch, part serious lesson, and surprisingly educational. Expect a few laughs and a lot of musical insight. Watch the full video here: 👉 Click Here to Watch on YouTube I've used...

In this new guitar lesson, I dive into a Balkan melody and show you how to create those flowing, emotional lines using two key techniques: 🎶 Tertian harmony - stacking notes in thirds to create melodic depth 🎶 Trills - those quick, vocal-like embellishments that give Eastern music its signature flair Plus, we’ll break down how to solo over the I-bVII progression (A-G) using the Mixolydian scale - a sound that’s...

Hey Reader, You might have heard me talk and write about the Circle of Fifths and how powerful it can be for guitar players. This one minute video brings the Circle to life with dynamic visual animation - not just what it is, but how you can use it instantly on your guitar to unlock all keys - and chord progressions. The best part? You already know the Circle - it's hidden in plain sight, right in the standard guitar tuning! I've expanded the concept into a short, easy-to-follow animation....
